Hello, I'm brand new to Firefox, I seem to LOVE everything about it except one thing. I cannot get the links that I've already visited to turn purple. I know that in Chrome and IE, anytime you click on a link to visit its page, and you go back to the search page (ebay, google, kijiji, etc.) the link you just clicked on will be purple and the rest of them are blue. But in Firefox I cannot get the visited page to turn purple. Please help, so hard to see what I've already clicked on.

Hello, thanks for your suggestions but they didn't work. All of my settings are currently as they should be as stated above. I think it's something behind the scenes that may have gone wrong? Specifically I'm having this problem on www.kijiji.ca. For example, if I look at vans, when I go back to the main van page, nothing I previously viewed shows up in purple text. Any ideas why? Does it only happen on this website?

Is Firefox setup to keep your history?

Do you see history items appear if you keep the history side bar open (View > Sidebar; Ctrl+H) and click a link?

Note that if pages are opened in a frame then you may not see the visit state of the link changing.

more options

When you go back to the vans page, if you reload (Ctrl+r) does the link color update at that point, or stay blue?

more options

No, it stays blue. But way down on the page is ONE link that is purple! I just don't get it.

more options

Yes, I do see the history in the history side bar opened.

more options

It looks that the links that aren't changed are actually using an onclick event to send a form and aren't visited directly via the linked href.

more options

Ok, I'm not sure what that means, lol. How can I change it?

Cor-el is referring to the website's codes.
On a link, the developer sometimes uses a piece of JavaScript code called an onClick event.
This is different from a normal link because it does not direct the user to the link included in the regular link tag. Rather, it tells to browser to open a specific webpage. This disables the link history.

A regular HTML link tag looks like this:
<a href="http://www.mozilla.org">Mozilla Website</a>

The code that the link on the page in question uses looks like this:
<a href="http://www.mozilla.org" onClick="opensite()">Mozilla Website</a>

The opensite() function would then tell the browser what site to open. This site can be changed from the JavaScript function that it is connected to and is not always the same as the link set in the href string.

If you don't understand anything that I just said above, it is ok.
I took some HTML and website design courses and it can become very advanced. Most people have no idea about website codes.

Please consider reporting this issue to the website's support/development team for them to look it to and possibly repair.

Here is an example of a link that doesn't have the visited state and that has an onclick attribute.

<a href="http://newbrunswick.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-cars-trucks-2012-Dodge-Grand-Caravan-SE-SXT-W0QQAdIdZ537899540" class="" onclick="Kj.Search.viewAdWithPrevNextParam(this, event);return false;">

So do I send an email to the developers of Kijiji? Because it only happens when I use Mozilla Firefox as a browser, it doesn't happen when I use my Internet Explorer browser when searching on Kijiji.
