First I would like to thank you for keeping Firefox up to date. Your question is about Yahoo safe search and how you can turn it off. It is quite easy to do. At some point an add-on was installed. That is why you now have Yahoo safe search. What you need to do now depends on what exactly you want to do. You can ether turn it off, or you can remove it from your computer. To turn it off you will have to disable the add-on. To do this in Firefox 29 you will first click on the icon with three horizontal lines at the top right corner. This is like the Firefox icon. Once you do that you will click on Add-ons. It will open in a new tab. You then want to click on extensions. This is where you can turn add-ons like Yahoo safe search on and off. All you have to do now is find Yahoo safe search on the list and click on disable. I hope this helps. If you want to remove it you can click on remove instead of disable.

Thanks firefoxbob2, but unfortunately there is no Yahoo or safe search Add-on or Extention there. It came up when I visited the site Purenudism.

It came up with an exception to "pure nudism". It blocked the site and came up with the message to login to Yahoo to lock-unlock safe search which I did but that didn't work. I then tried to remove Yahoo as a search engine but it just locked everything and I had to cancel this action to resume.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • The image "new fx menu" does not exist. > Options/Preferences> Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • The image "new fx menu" does not exist. > Options/Preferences > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

After you do this, try to turn it off.

This is quite interesting. Did anything unusual come up? I would say the other thing to try would be to take a look in the plugins. Things like safe search are not usually in there. It is more things like JAVA and QuickTime. You never know, odd things do occur. If it is not in there the next step would be to go to the control panel, open it up, click on uninstall and do a search and see if you can find it. If not I would question if you have malware.
