I can't install Firefox without a p/w. Windows 7 p/w doesn't work. Yes, I have double-checked upper/lower case. My p/w is all lowercase. No numbers, no special characters. In fact, I never had a p/w as administrator of my computer but created one in this instance. Still not working.

Hello,

It sounds like you may have downloaded Firefox from somewhere other than the official Mozilla website. Delete the installer you downloaded and download a fresh copy here:

You may want to run a malware scan with some free antimalware tools to make sure that you didn't accidentally unpack some malicious files onto your computer:

If you remember the download link and it is not one of the two I posted earlier, please report it here:

Hello, try the next, when your firefox download is done, open the Downloads folder for your Windows account, right-click the Firefox setup.exe file and choose Run as Administrator.

Thank you for responding. I had d/load from legit Mozilla home page. I am leery of the malware removal program although I did install and run; however, there are so many things listed, particularly in the registry, I am uncertain whether to go forth. Years ago when I used this type of program, it removed something important and my computer bailed! I remember when I took the MCSE class in the late '90s, the instructor emphasized "don't mess w/ the registry unless you know what you're doing."!

Your answer did the trick! I had been clicking on the .exe file & then when opened, clicked box to run as Administrator. Followed your advice & just right clicked on the file (in my Downloads directory) and everything is again kosher. I uninstalled Google Chrome but will keep in case needed again.
