Sometimes the firefox download says unknown time in downloads and stops at middle
Sometimes downloads from sites, say HP and others, shows unknown time remaining and suddenly stops at the middle of the download. If you try to pause and resume, then it finished without further progress bar showing download in progress. Is there any thing that i could do stop this from happening. Why it shows unknown time to some of the downloads. Is it because, the downloads are from some servers which will not allow the size of the file. But it is a fact that each file has a size.
I have seen some threads, but those threads ended without the correct solution.

This could be many things.
- Have your provider test your web service
- Check your modem
- Have you tried using a download manager.
There are add-on DownManagers. There are also external managers.
Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for what you want.
Hi, Fred I checked the modem No problem. When everything is fine in downloading thro firefox downloader then why try some add ons. Is there any solution.
It does not happen for all the sites download. By the by why it is showing as unknown time remaining for the downloads, when it is acutally known file size. Sometimes, it stops in middle of the downloads, and if you pause and then resume, then it fetches the link automatically and download the full file. What is the problem.
The add-ons work thru the Download Manager. It just gives some better control. Find one and try it out. See if the problem is still there.
On the other hand, external managers use their own web connection for downloads. The browser would tell it to download, then it starts.
Try downloading in safe mode as another test.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode;
Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.
Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.
Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?
Then restart.
