I have gone to default applications and Firefox is not listed there but still the quick search shows up every time after I press the home button, when I'm not even searching for anything. Then it's like it is stuck because I have have to press the home button 20 times to get rid of it. Then it will close and pop up again. Sometimes it also doesn't take me out of the app to my home screen on the phone.

i don't think it's possible to implement a setting to disable this functionality within firefox. it is signalled to the android OS at the time of installation through a manifest file that an app is containing a searchactivity. i think it would rather be the job of the OS to provide a way of managing or disabling that swiping gesture..

Normally, tapping the device home button should switch from Firefox to your device's home screen.

There is a function to show a search box when you tap and slide up on the home button, or press and hold the home button, but that wouldn't usually fire just from a straight tap.
