Lightning packaged with Thunderbird 38.0.1 but I don't have a notification bar?
Hi,
I just update to 38.0.1 and it says Lightning is packaged with Thunderbird. It says :
“If you haven't used Lightning before, you can do this directly from the notification bar at the bottom of the Thunderbird window. (and shows a picture of the bar). “
I don’t have a notification bar at the bottom of the Thunderbird window. How do I get it there and how do I find Lightning?
It also says it can be turned on or off using the add ons manager. Where is the add ons manager? I find Add Ons under Tools, but no manager.
Thanks.

Once you have installed it, Lightning will automatically upgrade as necessary.
The options to keep or discard appear to be shown only in a clean install, that is, when there isn't a pre-existing profile. So new users get to choose, existing users have their current preferences honoured.
Despite the blurb, it is still an addon, just that under a specific set of circumstances, some users won't need to explicitly download it.

This is it. In Add-on Manager select 'Get Add-ons' and search for Lightning. Follow the instructions to install it.
Hi Christ1,
Thank you for your reply.
I saw that. But the 38.0.1 "What's New" says Lightning is packaged (calendar integration) with Thunderbird now. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/new-thunderbird-38?locale=en-US&version=38.0.1&os=WINNT&buildid=20150608103712#w_calendar-integration
It should have been installed with the update. Shouldn't it have been? I don't have the notification bar that shows Lightning either that says Learn More, Disable, Keep. It shows the unread and Total of emails like always, but it does not show the Lightning status above that. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/thunderbird-calendar-integration
I shouldn't have to use the Add-Ons, according to this.
If you update from TB 31.7 and you didn't have Lightning installed before, you won't get it automatically with the update. If you want Lightning, simply install it.
“What’s new” in Thunderbird 38 says: Calendar integration: Starting in Thunderbird 38, the Lightning calendar add-on is bundled with Thunderbird. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/new-thunderbird-38?locale=en-US&version=38.0.1&os=WINNT&buildid=20150608103712#w_calendar-integration
Oh, so that means that when you originally install Thunderbird it’s “bundled” with it, but not when you update?
So if I install Lightning add-on now cause I don’t have it, after updating from 31.7 to 38, will it be automatically updated when Thunderbird is updated from now on? Or will I have to also update Lightning?
Sorry for these probably simple (silly) questions but I haven’t used any add-ons and not familiar with them, but I have use for a calendar and after searching for one I have not found one I like, and would like to use Lightning.
Thanks for your help and explanation.

Hi Zenos,
OK, Gotcha. Thank you so much for that. :)
Have a good evening.
Hi,
When I updated the other day to 38.1.0, Lightning installed, as well as the update. So I didn't have to install any add on.
Just saying........... :))
