I am running Firefox 42 on Win 7 and ever since the most recent update new tabs do not always show up on the tab bar. The tabs opened, and I can switch to them with CTL-TAB, and close them with CTL-W, but they are not visible. This behavior occurs ~75% of the time when I open the browser. The behavior persists for the entire session the browser is open. During the 25% of the time the tabs do show up, they all show up, every time during that session.

I have disabled all of my add-ons that affect tabs, and even done experiments in Safe Mode. The behavior still persists.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
