I refreshed Firefox Developer Edition. All is going well until I closed the Basic Firefox. Turns out the Basic Firefox was also affected even if I only refreshed the Developer Edition. How did this happen even though they have separate installation directory?

You are very welcome!! Do you use Devedition as your default browser? Devedition has a profile that is separate from regular release Firefox, you can use sync to share data between them. you can also create a new separate profile for release Firefox. Here's the article on how to use the profile manager in Firefox https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles#firefox:win10:fx56 Let me know if you need any further help.

No, the regular release is my default browser. There are 2 profiles in appdata but for some reasons the regular browser is using the devedition profile insteadof it's default profile. Also opening firefox.exe -P through Run dialog starts the Devedition Profile Manager.

Gotcha. There is only one profile manager for Firefox. When you start the profile manager, do you see two profiles to select from? If you do, select default profile, then when you launch release Firefox, it will use that profile.

Also, you can try this article from Mozilla Developer Network. It's very detailed on how to use profiles and the profile manager. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Firefox/Multiple_profiles

Are you using both Firefox versions at the same time?

You can add -no-remote to the command line to open another Firefox instance with its own profile and run multiple Firefox instances simultaneously.

Only use -no-remote to launch additional Firefox instances because you can't open external links in a Firefox instance started with -no-remote (it is invisible).

Safest is to use dedicated desktop shortcuts to start each version with its own profile.
