hi, there are websites containing malvertising code that redirect people to websites posing as browser updates and initiating the download of a malicious exe or js file. this file in your download folder seems to be a result of such an instance - please delete it as soon as possible...
This is not a Firefox patch. This is just a malware.
This file has nothing to do with mozilla or Firefox.

There was time period starting in mid 2016 til sometime on in 2017 that there were disposable sites being made to show up in infected Ads. The sites were created and often used for only a day. The pages claimed to have a "Urgent Firefox Update". It was done in a fashion that seemed to only target Firefox users on Windows and not any Mac OSX or Linux users.
Initially they started with firefox-patch.exe or firefox-update.exe files but the .exe files kept getting blocked by various methods even if made within a day period. So after a short while the scammers switched to firefox-patch.js until these disposable fake "Urgent Firefox Update" sites faded away in being reported as time wen on in 2017.
I used to keep track of the reported sites especially in the first some six months when this was mainly happening in 2016.

The 712056 thread had more updates and replies but was lost in merge/move to Lithium platform that sumo was on for a short while a year ago.
Also of note this person or group behind the fake firerfox-patch.js patch was doing this to Google Chrome users on Windows also. The fake Urgent Chrome Update page was more plain. I kknow it was from same as at least some of the same disposable sites were used for both. A long example thread on this is https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/HcXgFFaO9WU

. Whenever you get a message / popup that software / files need to be updated;
DO NOT USE ANY OF THE PROVIDED LINKS
While this may be a legitimate message, it could also be Malware or a Virus. Anytime you want or need to check for upgrades, go to the website of the True Owner of the program in question. For example, to check out Firefox, go to https://www.mozilla.org {web link}
