I stupidly update firefox (76 > 77) and malwarebytes (see subject) on a single reboot. Went to run firefox and malwarebytes gives me a ransomware alert and closes firefox.

After some grumbling and other noises, I manged to get firefox running in safe mode and disables all add-ons. Firefox runs like a dream. Started to return add-ons one-by-one and soon had a list of issues (I gave up after five add-ons as it was just driving me mad to re-install firebox after malwarebytes quarantined it.

Of the five add-ons, three have caused the ransomware alert: Ghostery (alert), Start Page (OK), No Script (alert) OneNote (OK) and Save Page (alter).

Is anyone else having issues with the latest malwarebytes update?

I have submitted a support request to malwarebytes.

Neil

Thanks for that. Did the refresh, added back most of the add-ons (it was time for a culling anyway), moved profile and crash files to D drive from C drive. No ransomware alerts from Malwarebytes. All now appears good. It still may have been a rouge add-on but I don't intend to find out. Been surfing well for the last couple of hours.

Cheers

Hello guys

    Download Malwarebytes Support Tool

Once the file is downloaded, open your Downloads folder/location of the downloaded file
   Double-click mb-support xxx.xx.exe to run the report
You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.

Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
You will be presented with a page stating, "Get Started!"
Do NOT use the button “Start repair” !
Click the Advanced tab on the left column

   Click the Gather Logs button

A progress bar will appear and the program will proceed with getting logs from your computer

Upon completion, click a file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop. Click OK
Please attach the ZIP file in your next reply.

Yes, have completed this already. Have a ticket number, etc. Have advised malwarebytes support that it appears that add-ons are causing the issue.

Hi rotthestop,

Try Refreshing your Browser:-

  • To do this, click the menu button at the top right corner of the Firefox window.
  • Click the “Help” option near the bottom of the menu.
  • Click the “Troubleshooting Information” option in the Help menu.
  • Click the “Refresh Firefox” button at the top right corner of the Troubleshooting Information page.
  • You’ll be warned that this will remove your browser add-ons, reset your customizations, and revert other browser data to the default settings. Click “Refresh Firefox” to confirm you want to make these changes.

If it doesn't solved your problem, then feel free to ask in Reply Section. Thanks for raising your question in Mozilla Support Forum.
