How can I change the colours of visited links without changing the appearance of other web sites significantly (to the worse)? Currently the colours set for visited and not visited are not easily discriminated by people with weak perception of "similar" colours.

You can go to settings -> options -> Language and Appearance and click "Change Colors" to change the colors of links and visited links
