My firefox browser keeps crashing. When it reopens, the default search engine changes to yahoo (even though I keep changing it to google in preferences). I uninstalled, then reinstalled. I also removed suspicious add-ons in the application part of my MacBook Air.

Hello,

Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control>(Mac=<Command>)<Shift> A)

In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Remove Yahoo Anything. Now do the same in the computers Programs Folder.

Windows: Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs. Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

How to fix preferences that won't save

Note: Some software, like Advanced SystemCare with Surfing Protection, can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.

You might also need to check for external malware. This is a well-regarded tool with a free version (and free trial of the paid version). Due to the link filter, I'm adding spaces after the dots:
