Plugin-container doesn't really add anything. It just stores plugins in a separate process (whereas before they would run in firefox.exe). See What is plugin-container.
So it seems that one of the websites you are on is playing music via a plugin. The next time this happens, can you keep a list what sites you are on, so we can check? Or you can close each tab one-by-one until the the music goes away.
It isn't any of the websites that I'm on because it happens anyway, I can be on any site and it will still play...That's the first thing I checked....
plugin-container is literally incapable of playing music without a website. The next time this happens, please tell us which sites you are on. Thanks.
I have the same problem, site plays in IE but no firefox http://fishermansnet.com/Fun/SmileyLand.htm
That sounds like a completely different problem. Joel is getting music that he wants to stop.
In your case, that site uses code:
The "bgsound" tag is non-standard code, that is only supported in IE. See What to do if Firefox won't play any sounds
Yahoo Mail Homepage and Facebook Homepage
I closed both of those open tabs after I opened a new blank tab and its still playing......
Thank Chris, I found the codes that make it work in both FireFox an IE. Working great now Mike
What about pop-ups? Do you have any other Firefox windows open?
Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs. You need to use all programs because each detects different malware. Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database.

No popups that I can see, could it be one of my add-ons???
If you suspect that it's an add-on, try Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems and Troubleshoot issues with plugins like Flash or Java to fix common Firefox problems
Happening with me as well. Malwarebytes with the latest update found nothing and it finds everything. My computer can be sitting there with no windows, no firefox, no nothing opened and it starts playing ads (snickers, verizon, axe). I can kill plugin-container.exe and it goes away for a while until it gets started again. Sometimes I get an Adobe flash plugin has crashed notice when I do it. Running 3.6.6 on XP, started happening a week ago. It's getting pretty flippin annoying. Thanks for your help...
Chris, I think one issue keeping you from solving your problem arises in your thinking that "Malwarebytes... finds everything" (July 19). While Malwarebytes may produce good software, one has to remember that no software is perfect. I suggest you try other software from the list that cor-el provided (on July 7) and see if anything is flagged as suspicious on your system.
The symptoms you described on your system seem to indicate the presence of malware (more specifically adware, with the potential of also being spyware), but one can only find out by running the appropriate test(s).
Good luck in your search.
Kanthi, thanks for the reply. I do agree with you, nothing's perfect and I will try some other titles. It's just that MB does work pretty good. After thinking about it a bit maybe I never noticed the plugincontainer until I had a problem and whatever issue I have was using that and thats why it quit when I killed the exe. I'll see what I can find. Thanks again.
I have the same problem too! And as much as I love firefox, I'm just about to scrap it. It has nothing to do with what site I'm on, the sites are always different and its random when the song plays and for how long. I have been dealing with this for months! I did, however, figure out one thing. I thought the song sounded familiar and finally remembered it was a background tune of a Raggedy Ann site I looked at (for my niece). So I looked through my bookmarks & "read it laters" and found where it was marked, and deleted it, but it didn't get rid of the random tune. Any ideas?
Firefox randomly plays 'Chanson D'amour' and I friggin' hate the bloody song. Quite annoying.
I am having the same issue. When I look at the audio mixer it shows that the music is coming from Plugin Container for Firefox. And, of course, if I close Firefox it goes away but is not coming from any open tabs.
I can mute it but then I can't hear other audio I want to hear. I tried updating Firefox to version 3.6.19 but that didn't help. I really don't want to update to the newer versions because Roboform will quit working and I'll need to upgrade it at a cost I can't afford right now.
I ran Spybot but it only found Doubleclick and another ad program that I cleaned. No help there. I will run some other malware programs and report back if I find a fix.
Hopefully, the Mozilla folks will find something and let us know.
I have had this problem for a week or so. Suddenly realised after reading some posts it was after pinning a tab for a games site as an App tab. I closed the tab and no music. I hope this might help.
I have an issue where audio continues playing after I have closed a tab or even the browser. I have discovered that I had to reboot or close plugin container with Task Manager to get the sound to go away. Sometimes when I open Firefox a video will start playing on one of the tabs, possibly even a share from a friend on Facebook, and I'll be wondering where it's coming from. I can open another video and the first audio will play at the same time until I close it with Task Manager. I am considering disabling plugin container which I have read about elsewhere.
