Support said to enable the auto updates for Firefox at Edit/Preference/Advance then the Update tab. I have no update tab showing so guess I am screwed again. Do I need a better version of Linux (have Freespire) or what is going on here?

This happened

Every time Firefox opened

Hal,

Updates for Firefox versions that come with Linux are usually updated thru the program repository for that Linux distro. The update controls in those versions of Firefox are either disabled (greyed-out menu item) or those items are removed from the Firefox interface.

That said, Freespire is basically dead - http://www.freespire.org/ . The home page still has information from 2007, and their support forum has little activity - http://support.freespire.org/ - won't even load today, but it did yesterday when was I answering a similar posting here.

IMO, install Ubuntu or Kubuntu (which uses KDE, like Freespire did). http://www.ubuntu.com/ http://www.kubuntu.org/

Hello Hal.

Although possibly not related to your problem, I have to remind you that the version of Firefox you are using at the moment has been discontinued and is no longer supported. On top of this, it has known unpatched bugs and security problems. I urge you to update to the latest version of Firefox, for maximum security, stability, performance and usability. You can get it for free, as always, at getfirefox.com.

moderator comment - eh Most older Linux distros that came with Firefox 2.0.0.x or earlier versions need to have some "packages" in the OS updated to be able to meet the Firefox 3.0+ System Requirements, usually the GTK package is too old. It is usually easier for those users to install a newer version of their Linux distro, than it is to update "packages" ala carte and then install a newer version of Firefox.
