Upon selecting Tools, Options, Applications, an unresponsive script message is issued . See 1) in "more system details". If I select "Stop Script" the list of applications appears. However, if I then click on Adobe Acrobat application and try to change it to use "other", I get another script error. See 2) in "more system details". If I select "Stop Script" the list of Helper Applications appear and I can chose one of them. However the application box stays at "other" and is not replaced with the helper application.

I remember having this problem a while ago and found that I had not enabled Java in Firefox. Go Tools>Options>Content and see if Enable JavaScript is ticked.
