Unless you are a Java programmer with a specific need for the Java Console add-on, you can safely leave this add-on disabled and it should have no effect on your web browsing.

Ah - yes, I wondered if that might be the case. So Java itself will operate normally without the need for the console?

Yes, web pages that use Java will still work without the Java Console add-on.

Firefox should have warned of this add-on incompatibility before download. I go to the java test page and it says java is not working. http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp thanks. were is the link to reinstall FF5. I knew I should have waited a few more months to install FF6

That's annoying for you. :( Have you made sure that all old versions of Java are uninstalled?

And did you remove the old Java leftover entries in the Registry?

And did you make sure that all the old Java files were gone from the Firefox folder on the hard drive?

And did you make sure that the Java console entry was gone from the Firefox registry entry?

And did you delete all the leftover Java folders from the various places on the hard drive?

I've found over the years that Java has been pretty hopeless at cleaning up after itself (I use Revo Uninstaller + manual "hunt & destroy" methods - although one has to be careful with both), and usually requires some post-uninstall TLC. Hopefully the new 7 series of Java will be better.

Not sure if this issue applies to my issue or not, but I just tried going to the Java page linked in this thread and after check with the version check button on said page, it showed update is Java 6 - 26. And Java console 6.0.11 to 6.0.26 is Disabled. But when I try to watch a video on Youtube, the plying Video Blinks out to a white space where the video should be, when I scroll the page up a bit the video reappears, but yet I can hear the audio of the video. Also on that Java page it states to update Java to latest version before updating Firefox to latest version.

Yes, my reply to 8Evo applies. You'll have to do a "rigorous" uninstall of Java and it's leftovers, then install the new Java 7 (technically, 1.7). If you're not comfortable hunting down files & registry entries, it's best to find someone who is, as there is some potential for being a bit zealous in "the hunt". :) It's taken me a year of working on different computers to get down a routine for fully, properly removing Java and old versions thereof - which would entail more writing of instructions than I have time for at the moment: sorry. :)

I'm pretty sure I got all of Java 6 26 deleted, I also ran Ccleaner a few times on the reg and system, I looked in Firefox folder and saw no Java reference, what does show up is what apple Itunes & quicktime is reference to Java, at least that is how seems. But I just wanted to make sure I'm downloading the correct Java 7 file.

I have never seen a YouTube video that needed Java to run, but rather use Adobe Flash.

That's what I was thinking, but ever since Firefox updated and what is stated on the Java site about updating Java first then Firefox. I figured that there is some sort of conflict, as in my first post. Before Firefox updated there was no issue playing a YouTube video. And Adobe Flash also updated last week, not sure what version it updated to, but my Daughter got the message when she came on the PC, And it's pretty simple just agree tick the box and it updated, so it's not like she could have done anything wrong. But at this point I don't have Java installed, I just need to make sure that I'm getting the correct Java 7 Version.

At this point I'm at a complete loss, YouTube Videos still wink and blink out, and I have no Java installed. So that leads me to believe that the issue is something else, that is causing this to happen.

I downloaded Java 7 & installed it, yet when I go to the Java site above by "8Evo" it shows no running Java. But when I go to the tools on the Firefox window, then Add-Ons, when the pop window opens, see images attached when I did the Check plugin update status. Adobe Flash player updated and Installed Chrome as well. But now The YouTube videos play as they should, and I have the Java update as well as adobe flash player updated, that was not showing up last night. But it was today.

Youtube may use JavaScript to load/setup their pages but not Java.

Java 7 has not been publicly released. On the link http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/java7.xml it says:

• Why is Java SE 7 not yet available on java.com? The new release of Java is first made available to the developers to ensure no major problems are found before we make it available on the java.com website for end users to download the latest version....

This is the place to get the current publicly released version of Java: https://www.java.com

• Download and SAVE to your hard drive (save to Desktop to make it easier to find)
• When the download is complete, exit/close Firefox
• Click or double-click on the Java installer that you just downloaded

Java Plugins (Add-on > Plugins)

• You do not need the "Java Deployment Toolkit"; you can disable it
• You DO need "Java(TM) Platform SE (version)" enabled

If need be, you can un-install Java 7 from Windows using Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (or Programs and Features) depending on your version of Windows then install Java from the currently released link above.

Along with Java plugin, you need to Download & Install Java SE on your system as well:

• click Free Java Download button

When you have installed Java, you will see Java (TM) Platform SE 6 U26 6.0.260.3 item (see the Red-outlined item in the attached screenshot) in your Plugins panel in Add-ons Manager tab.

Check and tell if its working.

Java Platform SE installation includes the Java Deployment Toolkit and I do not know why he is showing Deployment Toolkit on the Plugins screen and not showing Java SE Platform.

@mha007, I followed the directions as stated, and let Jave install the SE. But as "SafeBrowser" stated, When I downloaded Java from The Java 7 Link, it stated that the Jave SE was included with the Java Deployment Toolkit, I to was wondering why it did show up when checking the add on page. But now when I do check the Add on / Plugin status, see images below. now all is as it should be? And YouTube is playing as it should, I say this because, I started my post with just this question.

PS: My OS is Win7 x64 Pro

Okay now this Odd, I did check that link before my last post, and all was okay, see image below. Now I'm getting the Winking & Blinking on that page, and as far as updates go, Java is updated as well as Flash. But yet on the youtube pages there is no more Winking & blinking.

UPDATE:

I closed out Firefox ad opened it again, No more Winking / Blinking on that Java page. ???

uninstall Firefox and Java then install Java first before installing Firefox

everything should appear error-free; Java Console is NOT disabled

i think this applies to future FF updates
