Using CNN as further example and comparing to IE display as well as another computer with Firefox 7.0, 7.0.1 screen shows no banner background, no colors for stock quotes, no background shading for Facebook, Newspulse, etc. buttons. Other pages have similar background and detail problems.

Make sure that you allow pages to choose their colors and that you haven't enabled High Contrast in the Windows Accessibility settings.

Yes, I just discovered the first was the problem. It is a pain -- some of the interactive pages I use the most have unread and read (or responded or whatever) colors that are so similar that my old eyes can hardly tell them apart. I guess I have the choice, squinting a foot from the screen or proper page displays. Thanks for your reply.

You can use an extension to set a default font size and page zoom on web pages.
