After about 2 hours firefox v7.01 has consumed >3.6GB of RAM. I only have 4GB and ~0.2GB is needed for MSWIN7. At this point the PC becomes sluggish as FF tries to consume what little memory is left.

Do you have too many add-ons or too many pages open at the same time ?

Try disabling the add-ons one by one and see if any of them is consuming the RAM.

I am on FF 8.0 Beta with 13 add-ons and am presently having 6 sites open. My RAM usage is only 240 MB.

You can also manually clear the cache and set the memory limit.

Tools>Options>Advanced>Network-Offline storage

Thank you for the response. I have routinely severely limited add-ons and have not added any for some time. Since I am willing to try anything to "fix" this issue...please give me instructions to delete the few add-ons in place.

I would also appreciate instructions to "clear" cache and "set memory limit".

Thank you!

@dataman

To clear cache and set memory limit,

Tools>Options>Advanced>Network-Offline storage.

All add-ons can be disabled but not all can be removed (some third party add-ons cannot be removed apparently).

If you want, you can do a clean install of a new FF and then go for fresh add-ons.

Please note that having too many add-ons will slow down the FF.
