When I click on the X to close a tab, it stays open as a New Tab and cannot be closed. This started when I upgraded to Firefox 6 and still happens in 7. I was using Tab Mix Plus so I switched to Tab Utilities and even tried it without a tab extension and it still occurs under any condition. I have noticed it happens most often (if not always) when I am closing a tab for AOL Mail.

Using XP SP3 with all updates.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

I always use the default theme anyway. It still does it in Safe Mode. The only site that causes the problem is AOL mail. I have notified them of the problem, but not holding my breath waiting for a reply.
