I believe I've downloaded Firefox, but I get no set up window and your icon isn't on my desktop
I have a new laptop with Windows 8. I clicked on run to download the latest Firefox, and it completed. but there's no evidence of Firefox anywhere...no desktop icon or dialogue box to set up a homepage

Did you check in the "All programs"..
"Mozilla Firefox" program folder, located by default in one of these locations:
- (On 32-bit Windows) C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
- (On 64-bit Windows) C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
Nope, it's not hiding in any program file. Thanks.
Try to install one more time..
Download Firefox ->
http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Thank you, Jaya. I've already 'downloaded' it several times. When I click download I get a choice to Run or Save. I usually click Run. Once I clicked Save and I needed to say how....that confused me. And the choice to click Run or Save comes on a strip at the bottom of my screen, not in a dialogue box as shown on the Mozilla website Carole
Are you installing/running the file with Administrator rights.

Download and save the Firefox installer to the desktop and start the installation with a double-click on the desktop icon.
If the file is missing or corrupted then it is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files.
Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.
See:
Now I have Firefox setup on my desktop but when I click on it nothing happens...it also appears in my downloads. so the problem isn't solved Thanks

Try to run the installer as Administrator via the right-click context menu.
You can also try to disable your security software (firewall, anti-virus) temporarily to see if that allows to install the Firefox program.
I think I'm giving up. When I trid to delete Firefox from Downloads, it said it couldn't because it was open in Firefox....go figure. No problem...thanks for your help.
Make sure that, your not a Standard/Limited user when installing Firefox.
