I use IMAP & Gmail.

At the same time as emails disappeared, my 4 columns (Starred, Date, From/Recipient, Subject) returned to the default 8 columns.

I've tried everything at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Disappearing_mail.

Thank you for any help.

when you click on the 'Repair Folder' button in folder 'properties' This forces a reindex to show what is currently in the folder.

If you log onto webmail account are there any emails showing in the folder in question?

Have you tried : unsubscribe from seeing folder and then reselect it?

then try synchronising folder for offline use to download a copy onto your computer.

I restarted the PC and still had the problem. Then restarted again, and now don't. Not aware of anything I did in between.

Prior to this, all emails were showing in webmail.

Thanks for your help - your post may well be of help to someone else. Or me, if it occurs again.
