When some windows open in the Firefox browser, either imbedded in the browser or external to the browser (like the download window) I am unable to interact with the window. I cannot enter text and I cannot make any selections in the window. This forces me to use IE to do these kinds of things. I have checked all Firefox options, comparing them to my partner's laptop and they are all the same and her laptop does not have this problem.

Is this with all windows? When you move the mouse around the web page, does it react to links and other things on the page?
Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options) key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?
Here's just one example. When I go to the Vermont Department of Taxes web page (http://www.state.vt.us/tax/index.shtml) to check on the status of my refund and I click on the link in the upper right corner (What is the status of my tax filing or refund?) the window opens in which you enter identifying info like SS#. I cannot interact at all with that window; I am unable to select anything or enter any text. If I do this using IE it works just fine, but with Firefox I can't do anything.
I checked the site, and that link. No problem for me.

Can you use the Tab key to go to the input fields?

- Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
- Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
- Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
