I am expereincing a rash of junk mail for the last week or so. I tried marking them all as junk and deleting them and yet they keep coming back day after day. I tried to look for the file with the junk email addresses but could not find the file or any reference to it in your help pages.

This leaves me with several questions.

Is there a problem with the junk progeam in your latest release of Thunderbird?

Where are the junk definitions, email addresses, stored and how can I get to the file to edit it?

Chosen solution

I keep finding emails that have message filters in my Junk folder.

Then your filter(s) don't work properly. Filters are run before the junk mail controls. At least that is the default setting. Make sure that's the case for you.

The email problems continue.

I keep finding emails that have message filters in my Junk folder. When I move them to the inbox, open message filters and run the appropriate filter the messages are instantly moved to the correct folder.

Also, my inbox is burred with the same junk email every day. These messages are junk mail that I have declared as junk day after day.

None of this ever happened before the last two updates of Thunderbird. Either the most recent update have errors in them or they somehow corrupted my Thunderbird software.

How do I fix this without loosing years of email on my PC?

I looked at all the settings I could find including the one you mentioned. Today, I deleted two filters and created them over again to see if that will make a difference. I have not received any email from the filtered source as yet to see if that helped.

The same filters had previously been working for about 3 or 4 years and through several version upgrades of Thunderbird. This problem just popped up in the last couple of months with no changes made by me to the existing filters.

a few weeks ago, I deleted all junk mail filters and started over again. That seems to have cured the problem. I changed nothing in the email message filters as they were and still are correctly written and now seem to work perfectly as they did prior to the start of the problem.
