When I open a new tab and expect to see the Top Sites tile, or at least the tile/site name under each icon, all I get is a blurred over version. I know why the tiles are blank (Firefox is set to clear history on close) but the descriptions always stayed visible. This problem only started after update v42.0.

What gives?

Here is a screenshot to better show the problem.

Chosen solution

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

It looks like the theme LavaFox 2.3.8 and FF v42.0 don't like each other. That's quite unfortunate since I have been using LavaFox for a few years now and really like it.
