I have a lot of saved bookmarks which I have used for a very long time. The bookmarks all still appear in the menus and toolbar as always, but yestreday I find none of them will connect to a website. The activity bar at the bottom of the browser screen alo shows nothing when I select a bookmark.

I am using Firefox version 43.0.1 for Mac on a MacMini with OS X Yosemite version 10.10.5.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file (bookmarks, history) in the Firefox profile folder.

If the Places Maintenance extension can't repair the places.sqlite database file then remove all places.sqlite file(s) in the Firefox profile folder to make Firefox rebuild the places.sqlite database file from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

Keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite needs to be created, but no suitable JSON backups are available to rebuild the bookmarks.
