Hi,

Got weird problem with attachements at one of my PC's. When trying to send .xlsx file for some users (some webmails and other thunderbird users) it opens as .jpg. Outlook users see files normally. By default windows suggests to open it through windows live gallery or sth like this. When i manually force it to open it with excel i get popup that says something close to ' "file.xlsx.jpg" may be broken. Do you want to open it?' When i choose yes file opens normally. Many of my recipients are not that good with pc to manually open it and they call me all day long that they cant open attachement because it opens as a image file.

What is worth mentioning is that thunderbird adds .jpg extension at some point of sending message. While file itself is visible as .xlsx. When i send same file via thunderbird installed on the other pc, attachement is sent correct way without any problems.

Addidionally when i try to forward message sent from that pc by received via other thunderbird client attachement changes itself from 'file.xlsx' to 'nsmail.xlsx.jpg'. When i doubleclick it and open with excel same thing shows up 'do you want to open, because it may be broken blah blah blah'. After clicking yes it opens normally.

Any ideas what might cause this?

Is this still happening when you start Thunderbird in safe mode? https://support.mozilla.org/kb/safe-mode-thunderbird

yes, problem persist if sent from safemode. (thing is that by mistake i've sent .xls file first and it worked normally, then sent .xlsx file) - so it turns out that theres problem only with .xlsx files not excel in general.

.xlsx file require Excel 2007 or newer. Tell the people having problems to upgrade their Excel version or send .xls files. http://www.differencebetween.net/technology/difference-between-xls-and-xlsx/

All the recipients have compatible excel versions (same goes for the pc with that issue). Same on mobile devices. Some can open these others dont. That's not an issue.

Lets focus on PC's. Why ppl with outlook that recieved same mail can open them without any problems and those who downloaded mail via thunderbird see it as .jpg image.

Let's focus on your computer since it is running Thunderbird and you are sending the attachment. If you compose the message with the attached file and save it to Drafts does the attachment still have the correct file extension? If so what about if you send it to yourself? Still the correct file extension?

So...

Saving mail as draft shows up normally as .xlsx. Trying to forward this saved draft changes it to .jpg. (you see attachement as jpg with icon of an image)

Sending file just by creating new mail and picking it from windows to myself opens it normally. I've sent message to same email address which is added to both of my PC's and on the other pc it opens as .jpg

What need to be mentioned but I missed it in my description is that on the other PC attachement looks normal - file.xlsx. Things get weird when I want to open it by double clicking it. Then the window asking if I want to save/open file shows that im opening image file with file.xlsx name.
