Trying to add a local (htm) file to the newtab page: Add as file ///<...>.htm (protocol file:// works! - extra slash is local OS root) Tile appears as blank, titled. Clicking on tile does not work! but copying link address to address bar works. The blank thumbnail image ought to be automatically generated from the last visit.

Your robot just shrugged it off. NOT helpful. How about a Human read it and respond as such? If you consider this a bug, how about passing it to an actual *programmer* to investigate? Information given originally was as thorough as I could give.

You (still) can't pin local files to a tile on the about:newtab page. You could use a pinned tab to load such pages or add the link to the command line.
