I want to remove a few words that I regularly misspell because I misspell them to other word that are in the dictionary and if I remove them the common words that are alike will always be red-underlined and I can see and fix them before posting.

For example, if I remove bout *your* it will always prompt me so I can change it it you're

Is there or is there not a way to do this?

The builtin en-US dictionary can be found in the dictionaries folder in the Firefox program folder. You can edit this file and remove the corresponding lines if you want to these words to be flagged as misspelled. Best is probably to keep a backup copy of this file to compare it for changes in case Firefox replaces the file when updating.

User installed dictionaries are installed in the extensions folder the profile folder.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Hi,

Would you give this a try :

Type about:support in the address bar (press Enter)

Scroll down to Profile Folder and click Show Folder

Look for the file persdict.dat and open it in your text editor and edit it.

Then re-save it as persdict.dat and replace it.

The persdict.dat has nothing to do with it because it is empty. That's how you ADD words, not take them away. Was my question that unclear?

That's how you remove misspelled words ......

But of course : if the file is empty, there's nothing to remove.

'Must admit that it was a stab in the dark.

Hopefully somebody else will come to your rescue.

Sorry, but I followed that trail of bread-crumbs to the persdict.dat file, but the word in question is not in that file. I also checked the main dictionary file in the Firefox directory, but it doesn't appear to be in there either. Any other suggestions?
