The Firefox portable version doesn't use the disk cache (it is disabled), so you need to use the regular version if you want to use the disk cache.

You can create a new String pref named browser.cache.disk.parent_directory on the about:config page to set the location for the disk cache.. This directory needs to be an empty directory that doesn't store any files.
