I make a back up of my Thunderbird emails to a memory stick. I just copy the whole Thunderbird folder from AppData/Romaning.

Should I lose the stick, and someone else get hold of it could they access emails etc or are they encrypted and tied some how to my Thunderbird ?

Hello,

No, These emails are not encrypted. You can encrypt the login data and require a password for login (keeping emails decrypted), or you can encrypt the data on the usb stick.

If someone gets access to the profile folder, they can effectively duplicate your thunderbird.
