Disable Firefox Print Dialog Box.

more options

In earlier versions your print dialog box could be disabled with "print.tab_modal.enabled + true. In my Firefox version 97.0.1, that is not effective. PLEASE go back to allowing users to disable the Firefox print dialog box. It is clumsy, retains print settings that have to be changed each time a different document has to be printed, and creates a number of steps and wasted time for people who must routinely print from Firefox.

Why would Firefox go the way of other software companies and have no one to contact about this other than community (no offense to the "community") and disable the option to remove the Firefox print dialog box? None of this is the user friendly Firefox I have come to know!

Hi Suzy, this new design was introduced in Firefox 84. Many people have been avoiding it but now in Firefox 97, the switch is final.

You can still use the system print dialog if you prefer -- there is a link for it on the right side of the panel:

There are bugs on file for a future update of Firefox to have either or both of:

  • A user preference to skip the preview and go directly to the system dialog
  • A keyboard shortcut to skip the preview and go directly to the system dialog

Obviously clicking the "Print using the system dialog" link is one extra step. What are the other extra steps? Which settings do you need to keep changing?

HORRIBLE Microsoft/Apple takeover of browser I've used since before it was Firefox (Netscape anyone).

What's "one extra step"? Nothing, but Firefox KEEPS ADDING STEPS! When will it stop?

Besides, on MY computer, it's TWO extra steps. First I have to scroll to the bottom of the FF print dialog, THEN click on use system print dialog. Programs should NOT take over system functions.

Yet another "improvement" that screws up real computer users. Making Firefox the browser for idiots.

WHY wouldn't you leave the option to disable it in there at the very least??????

What idiot MBA manager decides these changes?

Sheesh.

While I don't really want to give google my information by using Chrome as my default, I'm just one straw on the camel's back to changing. Bear in mind, I do computer consulting, and I will switch ALL my clients, as well as recommend they tell their friends, to avoid Firefox in the future.

You can click "Fewer settings" to shorten the panel on the right side to avoid scrolling if you don't need the settings displayed there.

I don't know the timing for that.
