Did Version 116 break the Outlook 365 - Google Authorization Process?

more options

I have seven computers and two Gmail accounts. Everything works perfectly except one computer, starting two weeks ago, no longer is able to connect in Outlook 365 to the Google server for sign in. The "One Account. All of Google" window, in what appears to be a browser, just keeps repeating "Enter Email or Phone." It never progresses to the password window.

If I try to recover the account I am told by Google that I need to enable cookies.

The computer where this occurs is running version Firefox v116 with Total Cookie Protection. A similar computer running 115 works perfectly. These two computers have the same version of Microsoft 365 and the same update of Windows 11.

Firefox is the default browser.

I have been trying to troubleshoot this for two weeks. - It is not an account issue. I can easily access my Gmail accounts using browsers on this computer. I can access Gmail through Outlook on all my other computers and my iOS devices. - I have uninstalled my firewall (Bitdefender) and it made no difference. The working and problematic computers have the exact same version of Bitdefender and the firewall settings are identical. I can confirm the firewall is not blocking ports 993 and 465. - The identity files in the registry are identical between working and non-working setups - I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox. It still didn't make a difference. - I have tried to downgrade to v115 in Firefox but (1) that is a pain, (2) it didn't seem to make a difference and (3) it automatically updated to v116 anyway. - I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Gmail accounts in Outlook 365 - I have tried creating a new profile in Outlook 365 - I have enabled cookies on all my browsers including Firefox.

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or if userChrome.css/userContent.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the Default System theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window

This issue can be caused by corrupted cookies or blocked cookies.

You can check for issues with Total Cookie Protection.

Thanks. I tried everything in Troubleshooting mode as suggested. It did not fix the problem.

I can't delete cookies for the site since I am NOT using a browser to access Gmail. I am using the Microsoft 365 Outlook app for Windows.

What happens is that when I try to log on in Outlook a window opens that looks like it is from a browser. See attachment. However, I cannot find out where that window is coming from. Since my default browser is Firefox, I assume that is the case. The Google "help" says I need to enable cookies to use a browser, but I am NOT using a browser in this case (I'm using Outlook) -- and when I do use Firefox to log onto the Gmail account it works fine.
