Hi All!

I need some help to nail down the issue with common issue Firefox browser (v117.0 64-bit) video's not playing on my AMD laptop. On Chrome and Edge browser videos do play perfectly. But on Firefox and curiously also on Opera videos keep and stay loading.

I havetried all the trivial standard procedures: clearing cache, disabling hardware acceleration, incognito browsing, troubleshooting mode, refreshing firefox, clean install for both regular and developer edition (v118.0b4 64-bit). The behaviour is consistent regardless of website or application (youtube, browser based microsoft teams, https://camendesign.com/code/video_for_everybody/test.html and others)

Need to note that the issue has been coming and going over the last couple of years with different versions of Firefox. Also curiously when standard Firefox broke first time I installed the developer edition which worked fine for couple of days and then the videos stopped playing in developer edition too. Then for many months I used chrome to watch youtube. Since automatic updates where turned on for Firefox then at certain point surprisingly videos started to work again (probably some software update fixed the issue) and now it has been broke again for couple of months. Sorry unfortunately I'm unable to list all the version numbers here.

When I first started having the issue at some point I googled a setting in about:config the change of which solved the issue, but I can't find this obscure post anymore anywhere.

Does anybody have a lead here how to troubleshoot this issue? Help is much appreciated.

Thankfully, Priit

Do you have any extra extensions installed on firefox?

Hmm maybe any program on your computer that messes with firefox as well?

Does it still happen in Windows Sandbox or Windows Safe Mode?

Do you by chance have a KN or N edition of Windows 11?

If so then you need to install a media feature pack for codecs so the html5 players (for video, audio, games) can be fully supported. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-video-audio-problems-firefox-windows

If you do not have a N or KN edition then you already have it.
