Firefox keeps telling me to update but won't give me access to the update. Why?

Twice, I have received an update notice, telling me to update to 3.6.13; I say okay, then I get a block which says it's connecting to the server and that goes on for hours without accomplishing anything. I tried just downloading the 3.6.13, but when I try to put the icon in my applications folder I get a message which says this action cannot be completed because you don't have permission to access certain items.

What gives?

  • Download a new copy of the Firefox program: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
  • Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re)install.
  • Install the new version that you have downloaded.
