When I try to startup Firefox, an Mozilla Crash Reporter comes up instead of a browser page, saying "Firefox had a problem and crashed. We'll try to restore your tabs and windows when it restarts. To help us diagnose and fix the problem, you can send us a crash report." There are two check boxes, one "Tell Mozilla about this crash so they can fix it" and another "Allow Mozilla to contact me about this report." I chose to send a crash report in and then click "Restart Firefox". Once I do this it indicates that my report is being submitted but Firefox doesn't restart, I simply get another Mozilla Crash Reporter page coming up. I've also tried hitting Quit Firefox instead of Restart Firefox and I get the same results. It also tells me that there was a "problem submitting your report".

Two days ago I did a system restore on my computer and I notice that that's when I began getting this problem with Firefox not being able to startup.

I ran a full scan on my computer using Malwarbytes and it found 4 things which I had removed from my system.

I'd like to know how I can fix this and get firefox running again. I considered uninstalling it and reinstalling but I have many bookmarks on there that I am trying to hopefully prevent losing.

First of all find your Firefox profile folder and copy all of that and all the files it contains. Put it some-where safe such as the Windows desktop, not within the firefox profile or program paths. You will be able to use that to recover your bookmarks etc later. Note it is also a good idea to back up book marks on a regular basis.

That is a firefox 8 crash report, is that what you have been using? I would install the current version Firefox 9.0.1 which is available from getfirefox.com. Presumably you have an alternative browser such as IE8 available to use for the download.

I note from your system info aside that you have obtained some Crash IDs

  • Report for Crash ID: 237c2967-05bf-415e-b2c1-604402120127
    • Signature: JSObject::getGlobal()
    • related bugs reports are mentioned, but probably not worth looking at them if they relate only to firefox 8

Do NOT take any options that say anything like delete personal information. Often firefox will install over the top of an existing version and not loose bookmarks or settings, but to be in the safe side you could copy your profile folder and all its contents somwhere safe outside the firefox paths, maybe onto your Windows desktop.

If you install Firefox 9 and still get crashes please post some of the new crash IDs that you then get.
