Upgrade from Firefox 13.0.1 to Firefox 14.0.1

This isn't a question; it's a comment. Normally (for me at least), upgrades to new versions of Firefox go smoothly. This last one did not. Firefox was extremely slow coming up, it would not remember preferences, and it went into to this "not responding" state frequently and for long periods of time. I had to reset Firefox to get everything working correctly again.

It's OK if a reset is required after an upgrade. I'm good with that. But you should say so somewhere so newbys like me don't thrash around trying to find the problem. Thank you. Regards, collie-37690

Chosen solution

After each upgrade cycle, a small number of users report performance problems. A reset shouldn't usually be needed, but that may be faster than sorting out possible add-on conflicts and corrupted file issues. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank you for your Extremely Fast reply and comments. I'll keep them in mind in the future.

BTW, congratulations on a fine piece of work. I very rarely have any trouble at all with Firefox, and when I do, it's almost always user error (sigh).

Thank you again, collie-37690@olemac.net

Such issues after an update may also be caused by security software.

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?

Reset creates a new profile and tries to import some settings from the old profile leaving the old profile intact, including the cache folder that can take up to 1 GB.

Hi Cor-El,

I'm running Windows 7 x64, the built-in Windows firewall, AVG Free, and Microsoft Security Essentials. Does tjhat bring to mind anything? Thank you.

When upgrading from 13.0.1 to 14.0.1, after downloading the update click Knop apply the update. The browser restarts, and updates are not applied, is still version 13.0.1, and so a permanent error?!

Hi gsmden84, you could try using the full Firefox 14.0.1 installer. First download it from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/.../#desktop, then close Firefox, then run the installer. Does that work?
