Passwords aren't saving

I recently installed Firefox on my new computer (Windows 8). For some reason, I do not get the option to save my email password. (I've gone through all the password help provided by Mozilla so please don't repost those. Also, my email password is the only one that doesn't get saved.)

I know I can save my email password because I did on my old computer. The only difference between the computers is the operating systems (previously on XP). Is there a reason why I can't save my password in Windows 8 when I could in Windows XP?

hello, sites can define that the browser shouldn't save passwords in their source-code, see Usernames and passwords are not saved

you could use an addon like the following to circumvent such restrictions: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/remember-passwords

Website can use autocomplete=off to prevent Firefox from saving and filling the name and password.

You can remove autocomplete=off with a bookmarklet to make Firefox save names and passwords and other form data.

Thank you both for posting the information I already know and stated in my original question.

ok, so then you should already know how to deal with sites that disable the saving of passwords through the autocomplete=off parameter in their login forms...

The site hasn't disabled the ability to save passwords. As I stated, I was able to so it on my other computer that has a different Windows version. I can save the password on my new computer in IE, though I prefer not to use IE because I'm not a fan of it. It is only on the new computer using Windows 8 with Firefox that I am not able to do so and my question was does it have something to do with the operating system.

most likely not - what is the site you're having problems with?

Yahoo email.

login.yahoo.com uses autocomplete=off (maybe they've introduced it a short while ago - it won't affect passwords already stored before such a change in firefox profiles), so our prior suggestions of using an addon or a bookmarklet to circumvent this restriction should work to address the problem...

Did you check with the bookmarklet if there is a count other than zero indicating that autocomplete=off has been removed?

Which mail service do you use?

Both Hotmail (Outlook, Windows Live) and Yahoo use autocomplete=off on their login pages.

 placeholder="Yahoo! ID" autocorrect="off" autocomplete="off"

 placeholder="Password" autocorrect="off" autocomplete="off"

This bookmarklet makes the browser ignore autocomplete="off" temporarily, allowing you to save passwords even on sites that use autocomplete="off".

Remember Password bookmarklet:

Or, you can use the Saved Passwords Editor extension for web sites where Firefox doesn't offer to save the Username /Password.

Well then I guess IE is special because it saves it there as well as in Firefox used with Windows XP which I just got rid of last night. Both of those save my password for Yahoo Mail with no issues. It's only with Firefox run with Windows 8 that doesn't.

You may have saved those passwords at a time when Yahoo wasn't using autocomplete=off, but you won't be able to save a new password now without using the bookmarklet or otherwise removing autocomplete=off.

I had also this problem. Try before login to check 'keep me signed in' and after that in ID list will appear your saved login ID's. I don't know if this make sense or is something logical behind, but checking this mark solved my problem. Mozilla version 24.
