Reset Windows Picture and FAX viewer as default for jpeg files after loading Corel

I set Windows Picture and FAX Viewer as the default for opening jpeg, tiff and other photos, so it appeared as an option in the drop down box for viewing file attachments that were downloaded. After loading Corel Draw software, it is now the only option for opening photo files even though Windows Picture and FAX viewer is still set as the default. How do I restore Windows Picture and FAX Viewer as a choice?

Chosen solution

Did you look in the Corel software preferences to see if you can undo these associations?

There are usually backup keys created to make it possible to revert to the previously used application.

hello towerjim, you're posting on a support site for the mozilla firefox browser. your question doesn't seem to be related to firefox or any other mozilla product though, so we won't be able to help you with that unfortunately - please refer to our Mozilla Support rules and guidelines.

you could try asking your question on a general forum for windows issues like http://answers.microsoft.com instead...

thank you for your understanding!

I disagree. It only happens with Firefox, not Internet Explorer.

ok sorry, then i misunderstood the issue...

Could you explain the problem better? What is the drop down box for viewing file attachments that were downloaded that you mentioned? a screenshot would help - see How do I create a screenshot of my problem?.

In general, you can change the action Firefox takes for downloaded files from the Options Window - Applications panel. Note that Firefox handles common images (JPEG, GIF, and PNG) internally so you don't normally see any entry for JPEG files. For more information see:

Note that the "Windows Picture and FAX Viewer" isn't started like a normal program, but as being a DLL needs to be started via a rundll32.exe call.
This makes it necessary to set this program as the default to make Firefox offer it automatically as the first choice.

If another program has taken over this default setting then you will have to restore it yourself.

Thanks cor-el. I saw that post when I searched for solutions. I am hesitant to download from the 3rd party site recommended here.

I understand Windows Picture and FAX viewer is a DLL, so why was it offered as a choice for jpeg files while using Firefox for years until Corel was downloaded? Only then did the issue arise. Works OK with IE just not Firefox.
