I updated to the latest version of Java when Mozilla Plug-in page indicated it was outdated yesterday. I usually don't have a problem when I download and update. In this instance, it went fine and I double checked over at the Java website and it says I have the current version installed which is Version 7 Update 51. Even where you go to uninstall/install programs has it correctly as does my add-on page which indicates I did it yesterday as well. My Avast anti-virus shows it's the new version too. After I re-booted the Mozilla Plug-in page is still saying it's not updated. I'm not going to worry I know it's done correctly but wondered then how do I know when another version is up if this one hasn't been taken care of. I think Mozilla needs to check their plug-in page. Just wondered if this happened to anyone else that has updated it and the plug-in page didn't show the change. Thanks! Debbie

Hi I updated Java on 4/16/14, but when I tried to access a site it said I needed a plug-in. I went to 'add-ons' & found that my Java plug-ins were outdated, & I also read the confusing 'vulnerability' page on Mozilla. It did nothing to help, as it said that some Java plug-ins show up as being vulnerable, but they really aren't...since I'm not technically savvy, I have NO idea what all this means!

Will someone please tell me how to update my Java plug-ins for Firefox 28.0 so I'll be able to view the website I've been trying to see for 2 days? I went to Java's site & when I run the 'version tool check' it says I already have the most recent version installed. If this is so, why don't my Firefox Java Plug-ins get updated, too????

The recent Java update is version 7.0.550.13 and was released on 4/16/14.

Thanks for your help.

Oracle has released the Java 8 version and the Mozilla plugin check page recognizes this Java version as up-to-date and signals the 7U51 Java version as outdated.

You can find the latest 32 bit Java 8 version on the Oracle website if you want to update Java.

See Java Platform > Java SE 8 (JRE 8 Download;32 bit for Windows)

Thanks Cor-el. I'll go try that. But this is so strange because my Mozilla plug-in page shows the latest update as version 7 update 51 as does the java site. I wonder why it didn't show me version 8. This stuff is enough to drive you nuts. Cause then I wonder how do I know when the latest version is up if I can't go by my plug-in page. Unless it's a Mozilla glitch and they don't have the latest update for it. I think that happened in the past with another plug-in. Will go to the oracle page now.

The last Java 7U51 release doesn't have known security vulnerabilities, so it isn't really necessary to update to Java 8 at the moment.
This is only a problem with the plugin check page that marks Java 7U51 as outdated.

Ironic you mentioned that because I went to a few sites and back to Java.com and searched about Java 8 and found out it's really not ready to be released yet. So I will wait til then. It's just weird that the plug-in page is set for latest 7 update 51 and yet when you do update it tells you it isn't. I understand though because of what you said earlier that that's because there is a version 8 on the way still I can see where this causes a lot of confusion. Thanks much Cor-el! Debbie

For some reason Nuts4Mutts came into my e-mail as a possible solution for me. Nuts4Mutts is asking a question. Oh well, As of now when you go to www.java.com it will tell you that the latest version is now Version 7 Update 55, which I have downloaded but Mozilla plug-in page will still indicate that it's not up to date. As long as the Java site agrees, and your control panel where your install/removal section is shows it's there and your add-ons all jive then you've got the latest version. Hope that helps. Debbie
