Rather than do a full uninstall, could you try this:

Create a new Firefox profile

A new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.

Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):

firefox.exe -P

Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.

Click the Create Profile button. I recommend using the default location suggested, in other words, don't click the button to choose a different folder. Then start Firefox in the new profile you created.

If you browse around, exit, restart, etc., does the problem continue?

When returning to the Profile Manager to switch back to your normal profile, you might be tempted to use the Delete Profile button. But... it's a bit too easy to accidentally delete your "real" profile, so I recommend resisting the temptation. If you do want to clean up later, I suggest making a backup of all your profiles first in case something were to go wrong.

Firefox may not be shutting down cleanly. If you check the page listing your crash reports, can you find any that correspond to this problem? Here's how: when Firefox crashes, it usually records information about what was happening at that moment. You can submit that data to Mozilla and share it with forum volunteers to see whether it points to the solution. Please check the support article "Firefox Crashes" (especially the last section) for steps to get those crash IDs, and then post some of the recent ones here.

In case the problem is cased by an extension that is not fully compatible with Firefox 29, could you update your extensions and also disable any that aren't essential during the next 48 hours?

You can open the Add-ons page using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then look for a "gear" button above the list and choose Check for Updates.

Also, this is the time to read down and disable anything you don't recognize or know that you need.

Usually a link will appear above at least one updated/disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Any improvement?

I have done all this but still have the same Problem. There are no crash reports when this happens

Do you have Firefox set to clear all browsing and download history when you close it? It was reported in another thread that this can cause Firefox to "hang" in memory at shutdown. (I'm not sure whether it leads to the crash recovery screen or to the message that Firefox is still running.)

No it is not set to clear the history. I guess I will uninstall firefox completely and try a clean install. Unless you have another idea. This is what i get every time i open firefox

It would help if we could see your crash reports as jscher2000 asked for upthread. :)

Can you give me your crash reports?

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and paste them into your response here.
