Emailed pix cannot be opened in PhotoShop. Message is: "Could not complete your request because a JPEG marker segment length is too short (the file may be truncated or incomplete)." .jpg files open in iPhoto via Mac Mail and can then be opened in PS.

The problem may lie with the email program used to send the attachments, but the issue doesn't appear when e.g. Mac Mail sends to another Mail user. If attachments arrive intact when they're sent from non-Mac computers or webmail like Gmail or Hotmail, then that would indicate a senders' issue.

Open Preferences(or AppMenu/Options/Options)/Advanced/General/Config. editor and copy mail.server.default.fetch_by_chunks into the Search box, then double-click the preference to change it to false, and see if your attachments arrive intact.

I may have to receive fresh .jpg images to confirm that your suggestion has worked. I re-saved the original 8 non-opening images and they have not changed. Since they have already been mangled by the system, I guess the damage has been done.

If it's an IMAP account, you may be able to force the message with attachments to be re-downloaded by first opening the message source (AppMenu/View/Message Source or Ctrl-U).

Sorry to be dense - I'm a simple country woodcarver - but how do I force the re-download? I have the source displayed but there is no "force download" button.

more options

Opening the message source forces the re-download from an IMAP server, where the message is stored, so after you close the source window, open the attachment as usual and see if it's complete.

You may have to restart TB for the config. editor changes to take effect.

Sorry, that hasn't had any effect. I guess I'll have to use Apple products to download emailed images. I'm puzzled though - this has never happened before. Thank you for your help, it is much appreciated.
