How do I view my bookmarks in a sidebar on the left and a full web page on the right like Internet Explorer?

I don't want to view the bookmarks behind or on top of the web page. I want to see 2 independent windows side by side. I am new to Firefox, but can't seem to get my sidebar bookmarks from covering the left side of the web page. I don't want to always be having to move my bookmarks so far to the left that I can't see them, nor do I want to have to close my bookmarks in order to see the full web page. Is there a way to pin the bookmarks on the left without obscuring a web page? Thanks for your help!

I believe this is what you want? Use the Firefox sidebar to access bookmarks, history and social features. Add the sidebar button using the linked instructions, then click on the button you added and choose "bookmarks".

{ Ctrl + B } opens and closes the Bookmarks Sidebar.
