I have written an email message. When "send" is clicked the bar showing that the message is sending superimposes on the screen, and below it the word "attaching." But there is no attachment to attach. The screen remains in this mode until "cancel" is clicked. The message remains unsent. I copied and pasted the message to a new "write" document and had the same result. A different message written earlier but not sent, was then sent with no problem. Re-trying with the problem message produced the same result as before.

There's a page here that suggests this problem occurs when a draft is saved during composition: http://www.gabriolagraphics.com/thuderbird-email-client-wont-send-hanging-up-saying-attaching/ Why that should be, I have no idea; but you might try the remedy suggested there?
