How can I get rid of black blocks and symbols when typing in the address bar?

I get a lot of black blocks covering the text when typing in the address bar that disappear when the pointer runs over them (text appears). The blocks are also in certain websites, where it disappears if it's text, but doesn't when it's in the background. Can this be an add on or a setting causing this? Thanks.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>

key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Did you get updates for your graphics drivers?


Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Restart Firefox. Are there any problems?

thanks Bon2016, we got similar reports by other users with an intel hd 520 gpu - apparently their latest driver can fix it: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26228/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-and-Windows-7-8-1-15-40-?product=88355 (scroll down to download the version for windows 10 64bit).

Thanks for your replies. I've turned off hardware acceleration and the problem seems solved!

I also looked for the latest drivers from Intel, and although they have a very recent update, they refer to the computer manufacturer (Acer) for the latest drivers. Since there is no new driver available through the Acer portal, I've asked them when the new driver will be available.

Anyway, problem solved!
