For some reason, downloads fail when I attempt to save them to an external drive or to the SD card where I usually save downloads. This has never been an issue with previous versions of Firefox (I am running FX 54.0.1 on OSX El Capitan). The preference is set to "always ask", but if I specify a download folder on an external drive downloads also fail. I have gone through the checklist on the "download problems" help page.

Do you have any problem downloading to the C: drive?

Note that the OP is on the Mac platform and doesn't use drive letters.

This could be a problem with the permissions if is isn't working. I don't know whether the Browser Console would log such errors.
