Can't open images anymore. They auto-zoom zin when hovering them.

Hello,

Since the latest update to 58.0.2 (64-bits) my browser has some issues with images on webpages.

I always like to open images by clicking on it (whether with left- or right-click) when I'm doing some online shopping.

But for some reason that is no longer possible since the update. Instead, images are automatically zoomed in when hovering over them. Neither left-, or right-click work anymore. I've tested the exact same pages with Chrome to make sure that it's not the webpage that has been changed. Chrome doesn't give any problems.

These are the things I've tried so far: - Disabling addons; - Clearing cookies and cache; - Restart Firefox with addons disabled; - Restart Firefox in Safe Mode; - Refresh Firefox

Last night the 'refresh Firefox' solved my problem, but today I had the exact same issue again (while my computer was powered on all night and Firefox kept open). Again I made all the steps mentioned, but this time without any luck.

Here is an example of a page that acts like that: https://www.criminaldamage.co.uk/carter-jean-mid-blue.html

It's driving me nuts, so any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

The fact that Chrome incognito seems to block the layer, give me reason to believe that there might be a way to do the same in Firefox, or am I wrong?

They work differently, but I can't explain the difference.

If you temporarily disable style rules on the page, which then shows the content without image size constraints, you can have direct access to the images. This would be most useful if you then plan to close the tab, otherwise you have to switch styles back on to make the page usable.

Here's how that works:

If you do not normally display the classic Menu Bar along the top of the window, tap the Alt key or the F10 key to activate it temporarily. Then:

  • View > Page Style > No Style

Or if you are a keyboard oriented person, you can tap these keys in sequence:

Alt v y n

To restyle the page:

  • View > Page Style > Basic Page Style

or:

Alt v y b

Ok I tried both on FF and Chrome and get the same results when I hoover over the image it zooms in on both. And using FF58.0.2.

It does seem to be the design of that site to zoom into the main photo when you hover it. Since there is an interactive layer in front of the main photo, the only way I can see to save it would be the Page Info dialog. You can call that up using either:

  • right-click a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Media
  • (menu bar) Tools menu > Page Info > Media

If you click in the box and arrow down, you'll see the various smaller images and then eventually the large image.

There might be add-ons which make this easier. To say that differently, there are many image-related add-ons and I don't know which ones would be more useful than annoying.

I just found out that the issue also occurs in Chrome, like you both already mentioned.

However, when I open the same link in a 'incognito' tab, the interactive layer seems to be blocked.

I was hoping that opening the link in a Private tab in Firefox would do the same, but unfortunately it doesn't.

The fact that Chrome incognito seems to block the layer, give me reason to believe that there might be a way to do the same in Firefox, or am I wrong?
