I turned on The Tracking Protection as "Always" and the shield icon appeared, But today, I opened FF and there is no shield icon. I checked the setting, it is still "Always" WHy? Does this mean it's not protected?

I tried changing the "Always" to "Never" and back to "Always", it's still the same, the shield icon is not there. How do I know that I'm still protected without the shield icon?

You only see the shield icon on the location/address bar then Tracking Protection is blocking content. If you saw the shield yesterday but no today then this would suggest that today there is not content to be blocked by Tracking Protection, but yesterday there was.
