Hi,

This evening from one moment to another the scrolling on youtubes webside doesnt work correctly anymore. The mousewheel in generell works fine. Also on youtube, but not if i open on yotube.com the left sided menu with all the channels, etc. The pointer hovers over the menu on the left side, but if i use the mousewheel, it begins to scroll through the mainwindow on the right. I can click on on anything left on the menu, but cant scroll. Have to scroll vi keyboard now. Have tried with and without "hardware acceleration", have cleant everything cache related several times manually and with CC-tools, did restart the laptop also.

Thank you, really,

Roberto

Hi, ok, too many adblockers, get rid of adblock plus. Adblock and UBlock (works better) work pretty much the same and use same lists while Ghostery works differently

Now that leaves the rest and they are breaking the site am sure, Noscript.

Adblock Plus 3.0.2 ({d10d0bf8-f5b5-c8b4-a8b2-2b9879e08c5d}) Enhanced Steam 9.7 (jid1-YdiFiTEkQgInxA@jetpack) Ghostery – Privacy Ad Blocker 8.1.0 (firefox@ghostery.com) NoScript 10.1.7.5 ({73a6fe31-595d-460b-a920-fcc0f8843232}) uBlock Origin 1.15.18 (uBlock0@raymondhill.net)

This will tell you it is add-ons or not : SAFE MODE

In Firefox Safe mode these changes are effective:

  • all extensions are disabled (about:addons)
  • default theme is used (no persona)
  • userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored (chrome folder)
  • default toolbar layout is used (file: localstore-safe.rdf)
  • Javascript JIT compilers are disabled (prefs: javascript.options.*jit)
  • hardware acceleration is disabled (Options > Advanced > General)
  • plugins are not affected
  • preferences are not affected

Thanks for your tips. They were very helpfull. Have disabled the addons piece by piece, and did also several times start the "safe Mode". The mousewheel scrolling problem on youtube on the left sided menu is till on.

Interessting is, when i do open on the left side the bookmarks menu too, the scrolling works there, but if i do move 1 mm to the right the pointer again over youtubes menu bar besides the bookmarks...nothing. Is it the webside itself maybe? Everywhere else the mousewheel works. But not on this little small menu bar left on youtube.com. Like i said it happend without any warning.

Thank you, Roberto

For the left column, a style rule in the page is suppressing the scroll bar. I don't know why there are different results in different browsers; possibly Google sends slightly different rules. ??

This custom style rule will strip off the problem rule:

#guide-inner-content.ytd-app {
  overflow-y: unset !important;
}

In order to apply that to YouTube, the easiest method is:

(1) Install the Stylus extension:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/styl-us/

If you already have Stylish, you don't need Stylus. If you have Tampermonkey or Violentmonkey, you could try those for step #2.

(2) Then install this user style:

YouTube Left Column Scrollable (March 2018)

Stylus or Stylish: click the blue "Install Syle" button. Tampermonkey or Violentmonkey: scroll down and look for "Install style as userscript".

Screenshot comparison attached.

Note: Stylus doesn't work in automatic private browsing mode. If you have Firefox set to "Never Remember History" you could use a userContent.css file for this fix.

What did you mean about the menu bar? Is that in a different area?

Holy moly :-).

First of all, let me thank you :-) !!!

You guys are aweome, never experienced such carefull and helpfull support in the last years as a normal "user". Especially in our world of automated "read.me" support. Your idea with the stylus expansion and this specific style for it did work like a charm! Thank you, wish you guys there at support and everyone around you a damn nice week :-)

Thankfully, Google released a fix for this a couple hours ago, so no more workarounds should be needed. It may be necessary to reload YouTube bypassing cached pages. Either:

  • Shift-click the reload button
  • Ctrl+Shift+r (on Mac, Command+Shift+r)
