In the past, when opening gmail in Firefox it would automatically load in standard view. I now have to manually select standard view each time I go into gmail. I have tried countless ways to remedy this and nothing is working.

There are two places this could be set:

(A) A cookie (B) Your Google account

Since it happens when you log in, it doesn't sound like this setting is stored in your Google account. So by process of elimination, I would suspect that the cookie Google sets to store your browser-specific settings is getting cleared between Gmail logins.

Does this occur if you log out and immediately log back in without closing Firefox, or only when you exit Firefox and start it up again, or only when you shut down Windows and start it up again?

It does it all the time, regardless of whether or not I log out.

I found a combination of errors in settings both in cookies and in the Google account itself. Thanks for the help!!
