First, make sure all programs and drivers are up to date.
And
Perform a System File Check to fix corrupted system files

If there is still a problem, Let’s do a full clean re-install;
Note: Firefox comes in three or more folders on all computers. They are;
Maintenance: (Programs Folder) <Windows Only> Firefox itself: (Programs Folder) And two folders in the profile of each user on the computer for each Firefox profile for that user.
If you remove the Firefox folder, the user profiles would not be affected.
Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link}
Save the file. Then Close Firefox.
Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.
Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Note: Check Both Folders
Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac
Linux: Check your user manual. If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it. See Install Firefox on Linux; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux
If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder Firefox in your home directory. http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Look for, and remove any Mozilla or Firefox program folders. Do not remove the Mozilla Thunderbird folder if there is one.
Do Not remove any profile folders.
After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner if you have one. Then run the installer. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.

These crashes are GPU related (Process Type : gpu (web))
You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration related issues.
First, ALL my drivers are current, thanks to HP Support Assistant.
AND last week ran this:
cmd admin dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
(were no unfixed issues reported, task successfully completed)
However, during the "legacy" add-ons debacle, this Firefox installation got messed around with following various suggestions, and even though auto-updated to 66.0.5 there was the possibility of corruption or whatever. So I downloaded FF Setup 66.0.5, uninstalled the possibly corrupted current 66.0.5, cleaned out the registry (except for Mozilla plugins) and installed a clean version of 66.0.5.
Since this issue had almost (or entirely I think) been occurring ONLY with CNN and ONLY on CNN pages with vids if I tried to do anything on the page before the page finished loading (NEVER a problem on any other site) .... I now tested that on CNN.com. It seems much smoother and no glitches ("Firefox stopped working"), so I will tentatively assume it's fixed.

"Stress-Tested" CNN again now and it continues to run smoother & faster than before .... with no "getting stuck/freezing" issues.
So the new 66.0.5 installation (with cleaned registry) seems effective. Note: NO other changes to my system.
Thanks (will report if this changes)

NOT fixed
was seeming smoother on CNN, then now this .... on CNN
and ONLY on CNN!
I believe it is an issue between Firefox and CNN, not involving this computer
You can do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.
Make sure you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

I have run the KIS full scan only a few weeks ago, and the KIS Rootkit scan auto -runs every few days. Here is the Rootkit scan I ran immediately before the full scan now.
Also recently ran both the MS MSRT and Defender Full Scan. Will now run both again.
As a degreed physicist plus engineer who used to work for General Dynamics doing my own scientific mainframe programming plus having 4 programmers working for me in my function as a kind of in-house consultant/problem-solver .... I remain convinced that the main problem, regardless of smoothing out FF with a new install, is an issue between Firefox and CNN.com and not specifically my comouter
Will post again after the next two scans are finished

NOTHING
Will post again after the 5th Full Scan from Windows Defender
I hope someone will FINALLY be so kind as to inform the Mozilla coders to PLEASE fix this incompatibility issue between Firefox and CNN.com
This issue ONLY happens with CNN and first started with version 66 or thereabouts!
Thank You (next installment to follow)
